When I personally think of amazing and unforgettable moments, this one has to come to mind. It seemed that this moment was featured in every opening package of a WrestleMania and some show openings as well. When you see a compilation of extreme moments, you tend to see this one quite a bit. It was the beginning of a trilogy of matches that would set the bar for tag team and extreme wrestling for decades to come. And this one was capped off with a Swanton Bomb from Jeff Hardy.
This particular story began in 1999 with The Hardy Boyz and Edge & Christian at No Mercy. In a Ladder match between the 4, the new bar for ladder matches was set. Then entered the Dudley Boyz and tables. Those damn Dudley's and the Hardys would face off in the first Tables match at the 2000 Royal Rumble. The Dudley's would go on to win the Tag Titles the next month and a Triangle Ladder match was set at WrestleMania 16 between the 6 men or 3 teams.
Anaheim was on fire for this match, beginning to finish. The Hardys would take an early advantage, preforming Event Omega from two ladders. Bubba Ray would have advantage after a missed 450 splash onto Jeff and start blasting everyone with a ladder. 3 ladders would be erected and all would fall with all 6 wrestlers either flying to the outside or crashing to the mat. 2 ladders were set up with an extra strong table being used as a scaffold. But the fight would be taken to the outside as Bubba would try and set up a table to put Jeff on, until Christian attacked and knocked Bubba out and on the table. Jeff would climb up an enormous ladder and create today's moment with a death defying Swanton Bomb through Bubba and the table. Jeff would say at a later time he thought he missed the table and landed on the floor. But nope Jeff, he got it all and made a huge moment in wrestling history.
Edge and Christian would go on to win their first Tag Titles, but the moment has been made and Jeff Hardy would start a career of leaving his body behind to get the high of being extreme. This would be outdone later in a following match with the 3 teams, but that's a story for another day. Well folks have a happy safe Easter and Stay Tuned for number 6 tomorrow!!
