Well the biggest show of the year has come and gone, and it was a spectacular event all around. I had to unfortunately work the whole weekend and missed the live show, but I tried to stay away from other's opinions so I didn't come into this with a bias. So I have spent the almost 8 hours watching the greatness and horribleness of Nights 1 and 2 of WrestleMania XL. So now I am going to go over some of the high points and low points of the Showcase of the Immortals. And I am just gonna go over the main ones that stood out, because if I covered everything, this article would be about as big as a Harry Potter book. Now on with the stuff!
The Bad (Picture not related)
Uso vs. Uso - This was the worst part of the weekend hands down. Both brothers kept trying to out-superkick the other while taking two minutes between each kick. Overall it was boring and had zero intensity. The one spot in Night two were Jey speared Jimmy off the stage alone was better than this entire match.
Philadelphia Street Fight - This was a horrible "extreme" match. Snoop Dogg ruined the whole thing. It was like letting a 5-year old superfan kid be on commentary. Bubba Ray was there almost as a comedic foil instead of "Hardcore Legend", and it was quite bizarre. Not much else to say about it, maybe better on mute?
The crowd on Night 1 - I don't know if it was the weather, which was mentioned by one person I talked to. But the crowd on Night 1 overall was just not with it. I believe overall that Night 1 was underwhelming as a whole, but I do think that it might be due to the match selection for Night 1. Plus if you think about it, the Main Event of Night 1 was not the conclusion in anyway and the folks the next night got to see the true main event and true ending to the festivities. I hate to say it but deep down maybe some felt as though Night 1 was the "Pre-Show" to the true night of WrestleMania. Just a theory.
The ladder match - Overall it was a fine ladder match and happened just as I predicted, but it just felt, I don't know...phoned in? Nothing special really, and it made me yearn to go and watch back TLC 2 at 17, but then I kind of thought about it. Probably a good thing they don't do the insane stunts that set the bar so high. These guys have to preserve their bodies better than the 6 men from back then. I guess my gripe is just longing for the good old days and not about this match really.
The Good (Picture is Super Related)
Me - Yeah just gonna throw it out there, I did not count the Mysterio vs. Mysterio match in counting my prediction picks, due to them changing the match after I already made predictions, because I would of changed my pick had I known. If you haven't read that, go back and read that real quick and see how spooky it is on how right I was. So I went 11 out of 13 for the weekend only missing on the Main Event of Night 1 (which I now know why they did and I should of had that one), and the Philly Street Fight, but who really cared for that match anyways? So pat on the back for me and we move on.
Dakota Kai - IYKYK (All I'm gonna say so I don't get in trouble)
R-Truth - I know I know I just crapped on the match, but R-Truth is a classic. The first ever Hot Tag in a ladder match was great, and he finally got his first WrestleMania win which was long overdue. Not much on Miz though, not sure any booking would make me truly care about Miz, sorry not sorry.
Night 1 Main Event - The second longest main event in WrestleMania history, if you can't guess number 1, you are not a real fan, but you also probably haven't watched an hour of rest holds either, so good on ya. But this match was what we were promised and the one person that might have been the weak link, was far from it. The Rock did not get gassed like he did at WrestleMania 28, and 29, and he put on one hell of a performance. I would still take last years Owens/Zayn vs Uso's Tag match over this one, just because this was like Act 2 in a play that was being concluded the next night. But, this match had story going and it was executed to perfection, and set up Night 2 perfectly.
World Heavyweight Title Matches - Seth Rollins needs his flowers. He is the Workingman Champion, and he proved it. His knee has been messed up for a while and still put on 2 great performances. Drew McIntyre deserved to win the Title in front of a crowd finally and he did it. Then he pissed CM Punk off...which costed him big. For only the second time only, Money in the Bank was cashed in at WrestleMania and it wasn't as big or as special as when Seth Rollins did it, but it was a great surprise and well deserved as well.
Dakota Kai again - I mean...just...sorry I'll move on...
Cody Rhodes Finishes the Story - This is what is all about, this is what everyone came to see, if Cody would fulfill destiny. And he did it, he did it in the craziest and one of the most fun Main Events of All-Time. You have the Uso brothers killing one another. Solo tries to win it for Roman and Cena comes out. Cena gets destroyed by The Rock while slicking his hair back to cover his bald spot. The Rock is almost killed by Seth Rollins in Shield gear (which was a waste almost, since he did absolutely nothing in the match except in the finish). Roman would save Cousin Dwayne, and The Rock would go for the whoopin' on Cody until the most shocking return was made by the true Final Boss, The Undertaker. He would chokeslam The Rock and disappear into the night. Cody would hit 3 Crossroads, and finally dethrone the longest 'Reign'ing Champion of our Era. The emotions after the match were at an all time high, as babyfaces and family alike came to the ring to celebrate with Cody, and the new story was just beginning for Cody.
Roman Reigns - This man needs his flowers as well. He may only come back and wrestle at the big 4 PLE's but he has held up the company and salvaged a career that was summed up in one word, backlash. Everything he did was met with backlash. When he was dominating his first Rumble, they backlashed that he lost. A year later they backlashed when he won the Rumble. And from then on he was a good guy no one wanted to cheer. When he returned in 2020 to win the Title from Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman, no one could predict how long this run would be. 3 and a half years later we are probably near the end of Roman's career and this Reign will never be forgotten. Just wish he didn't face Brock Lesnar so damn much sigh
Samantha Irvin - One last one, this woman did an amazing job. Her emotional announcement of Cody as the new champion actually caught me and made me shed a tear. She obviously loves her job and all the wrestlers she announces for, Her are your flowers as well Mrs. Ricochet
Well there ya have it folks, the best and worst of this enormous weekend, and I hope you had a great one with the ones you watch with, either it be your significant other or a kid you want to expose to the business. This was a great event to use to get someone into wrestling as I think we are set for the next boom period, so strap in and STAY TUNED!!!
